Hi All,

New member here.

I've been a fish keeper for quite a while (years) and have always wanted a puffer but have not been setup for it. Long story short, I have my tank cycled, 30 gallon, found a 2½" specimen and I should be the proud owner of a Hairy Puffer fish next Tues.

That said, I've a question re: diet. I'd like to include dry food as I've read it's healthy and part of a balanced diet? Can anyone recommend a particular "dry" food that they've found to work?

Mine is quite happy with earthworms, scallops, shrimp.

Mine loves mussels (only once a week because of the thiaminase content), prawns and lancefish. No matter what I do though he will not touch cockles!

Are you feeding your Hairy Puffers live food?

Live shrimp or? Any particular type of shrimp that you like to feed your T. Baileyi ?

OK, so I put a few ghost shrimp in and a small piece of thawed out talapia. I returned and the talapia was gone and there is a now a tiny bump in my puffer's belly. My new puffer is swimming about looking at the tank of fish next to his/her tank.
I have to say, these Hairy Puffers sure are fun to watch. 2.5" and happy as can be now that there's a little food in the belly.

I'm looking forward to taking some pics, video and exchanging posts with everyone.

I don't feed live food simply because I can't get hold of live shrimp, and I would never use 'feeder fish'. He has plenty of snails in the tank but I've never seen any evidence of him eating them, I think he thinks they're for decoration!
