New to marine tanks

Setting up a 75 gallon salt water I have live sand and will be getting live rock, a couple power heads, as well as a protein skimmer. Is a mechanical filter really needed as well? Open to doing a sump down the road but not at this time. Also any suggestions on budget friendly but decent protein skimmers? Any advice is greatly appreciated this will be my first saltwater set up. Thanks in advance!

You do not need mechanical filtration for SW. Actually, it's frowned upon & referred to as: Nitrate factories.
What do you plan on housing in there?

I'm not sure what I want to put in it yet I'm taking my time getting everything set up so I can afford decent equipment. It will be a FOWLR set up I was interested in teacup rays but 75 gallons is far too small, was thinking maybe a lion but haven't researched them enough yet.

RE: mechanical filters. I periodically run one. Typically I run it following water changes and when I blast debris off of my rock. I usually run it for about an hour or two to collect anything my siphon missed (which is a lot sometimes). Otherwise they aren't necessary in my opinion. Just clean it when you're done with it, and set it to the side for next time.
