detritus worms as food?

So I was culling my cherry shrimp this morning (culling = happy puffer) and noticed a lot of detritus worms in the soil. This doesn't really surprise me because I hardly ever gravel vac in this tank because of the shrimplings and it has a heavy plant load. My question - is it safe to feed these to my red-eye puffer? I'm just wondering if I'm sitting on another food source he would enjoy.

I wouldn't for the simple fact that a pufferfish's natural diet is crustaceans, not worms. I don't imagine they would hurt him (unless it's a bristle worm!); there's simply healthier things he could be eating.
Besides, what would you rather eat - a lobster tail or a... 'detritus' eater.

LOL - touche! I gave him some anyway since general consensus is that they aren't harmful. He ate them right up! I believe in giving my puffers as varied a diet as possible so he gets snails, live cherry shrimp culls, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen mosquito larvae and sometimes live daphnia. Detritus worms won't be a regular part of his diet but I'd rather he eat them then sending them down the drain.

Try testing if he would eat detritus worms. If he does then they would make good holiday/vacation food for the puffers.
