Haha! Love the description: "cheerfully mobbing". They are quick to skip when the trap gets hauled up! Very neat video, thanks for sharing.

Was wondering the same thing... Is it fresh or saltwater?

Long Beach Island is a dune barrier island along the New Jersey coastline in the Atlantic. The southern tip
of the island actually feeds into Great Bay and a very large river. That means salt, brackish, and
fresh water, all mixed in a large bay feeding area. (I.E. lots of crabs & puffer central.)

My guess is that these hungry fellows are Northern puffers.
Sphoeroides maculatus

Very common along the northern east coast on the U.S.,
and often caught by bay fishermen who are using smaller sized hooks for panfish.

Here's a good sized Northern that hit a bucktail lure.
