46g tank in need of a puffer... Suggestions?

Hi, I have a 46g bowfront tank that I would like to setup for a puffer. It is not currently running, so I am only in the planning stages and probably wouldn't be ready for a puffer for another couple months at least. I would prefer a freshwater setup, but I would consider a brackish system if that fit my wants/needs better. I actually formerly had a very large brackish paludarium with monos that I had to give up after breaking my neck, actually, I had to give up all my tanks at that time for obvious reasons. While I really like the lurkers like the palembang and hairy puffers, I would prefer to have something that is more active and won't make my tank feel very empty by hiding out all the time, something a little more interactive. I would also really like to have a planted tank. I know filtration is very important to puffers, and I have plenty of options including power filters, canisters and even a DE filter.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
