I've read the library articles many times, I just want to hear some different view points. I was planning on getting two?

From my research so far, it should be 5 gallons for the first DP and 3 for each additional. So 2 would max your tank capacity. Best bet would be 2 females.

I realize that from a bioload standpoint, two in a 10 gallon would be a sensible limit. But would it be better for their quality of life to have one?

My F8 lives alone.

It certainly wouldn't hurt quality of life to have a singleton. It would eliminate any aggression issued for certain. I had 2 in a 10 for a couple years with no problems. They didn't seem to have aggression issues and both turned out to be males. Its hit or miss, really. I will say this though, you wont have any less enjoyment out of keeping a single than you would keeping two. A single 1" DP certainly has more than enough personality to fill a 10g.

Pufferpunk, what's your personal opinion on the subject of dwarf puffers and cohabitation? Do you agree entirely with the author of the article who says dwarves are somewhat of an exception?

I've had as many as 9 in my 10g at one point but I don't recommend it! It was only because it was impossible for me to leave my lfs empty handed once I saw those adorable faces!

Also just my opinion but I think some dps like "safety in numbers!" They seem braver if they're not alone

I'd personally go with 1 or 3. 2 seemed to be a recipe for one of them getting their @#% kicked regularly in the tanks I've owned.

@Hadla: I've noticed that as well. When I owned 2 it was bad news. When I owned 3 they were a crew that fed, slept, swam, and hunted together.

I'm sorry, I read 20g. 2 females in a 10g are best. Otos like to be in groups, so 3 would be OK.

I have a 20 gallon, the original poster has a 10 gallon. Sorry, I kinda hijacked the post since Ive started sooo many new posts in the last month I didnt wanna start another new one with the same kind of subject. Aqadvisor actually says 4 puffers and 4 otos would be around 83%.. but dont wanna push the limit though.
