I have been doing research on fahakas for some time and was wondering if it is suggested to use larger filters for such a large fish, it is obviously better, but is it necessary or not

Good filtration is always necessary, especially for such a large fish. A canister filter is highly recommended.

I have 3 Aquaclear 500s & an Eheim 2217 on my 125g but there are more fish than just my 11" fahaka in there.

I love my Aquaclears. I don't use canisters, I find them cumbersome. I have 3 Aquaclear 500's on my 210-gallon fahaka tank.

I used internal canisters (mechanical filtration only), external canisters (biofiltration only), veggie filters, and lots of water change for the Fahakas.
