Quick internal filter question

I've got one of those standard internal filters- the one that is a column of media with a powerhead on top.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't' stick it upside down? (with the powerhead at the bottom)
It would make rinsing the sponge a bit easier as it opens on the bottom.
