1) Your water parameters - pH, Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrates and salinity (if appropriate).
pH - 8.2
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5
2) Tank size and a list of ALL inhabitants.
10 gallons
1 - 1.5" Figure Eight Puffer
3) Feeding, water change schedule and a list of all products you are using or have added to the tank (examples: Cycle, Amquel, salt, etc)
2 smaller (pea-sized) snails a week
bloodworms in between
75% weekly water changes
4) What changes you've made in the tank in the last week or so. Sometimes its the little things that make all the difference.
Did my water change a day late last week and didn't feed Saturday or Sunday
5) How long the aquarium has been set up, and how did you cycle it?
At least eight months
I cycled fishless with 5ppm of pure ammonia.
6) What were the symptoms/issues?
A week or so ago, I noticed a few spots on my F8 puffer that looked like ich. I continued watching it and it didn't get better, nor worse. She was still eating and behaving as normal when I left to go see my mother in law early Saturday morning. I left the light out on the tank while I was gone and didn't feed. Upon my return late yesterday afternoon, I found her dead, stuck to the pre-filter sponge but the spot I thought was ich is actually a small hole and her sides (by her spine) look drawn in as if she's emaciated which I know she wasn't. What would cause a white hole in a puffer that can ultimately lead to death? She was a rescue but she was doing great and had no issues other than this spot. Input would be appreciated, I'm mourning for my little friend.
