We are glad to find this forum, since probably like most of the 1st time puffer owners we have mixed information, contradictory guidelines, etc
Two days ago I bought two puffers at the persistent and continuous request of my son who saw these guys in a pet shop...and fell in love with them. The whole process was about two weeks, from seeing them and buying them, I didn't want to act on impulse so we came home and learn about them, converted the aquarium from fresh to brackish water and made sure all is cycled and ready to receive the little buggers.
So here we are, proud owners of puffers and I have to admit these little guys are special and worth all the effort....
All we can do is hope they are OK, but just to be sure we took a video of them swimming and feeding... if any of you with more experience can tell us if something is wrong and how to fix it, it will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome! Looks like you have one gsp (the first one in the video) and a figure 8... The gsp will need to be in full saltwater while the figure 8 can stay in brackish

Welcome, yes you have 2 different puffers with very different requirements as stated above. Unfortunately incompatible.

Yup, the GSP will do best long-term in full marine conditions, while the F-8 should be in light brackish water. Both of these should be long-lived fish under good care, but need to be housed separately.

I read about the requirements of both puffers, I am so sorry I didn't come across this forum earlier because I am afraid my son will suffer tremendously if we return the F8 to the store. Since the both puffers are juvenile do you think we can slowly acclimate them to full marine water eventually? Oh my.... this is going to be a long and painful journey....
Is there way to tell the age of a puffer you got in the store? the GSP is about 1 1/4" long and the F8 is 1" , we keep them in brackish water right now of 1.004 SG (the tanks is about 50 gal) and temp is 82F, the filtration for the aquarium is an external canister filter working at 200g/hour and beside the mechanical filter is loaded with more than 3 lbs of Biomax extra porous ceramic (I can add more if necessary).

Hey you could swap the f8 for a Ceylon, they have the same water conditions as a gsp.

Since our tank is only 50 gallons we will return the F8 as RTR suggested and slowly transition the GSP to full marine. The tank is to small for 2 puffers like GSP and Ceylon.
The only thing I regret is the wrong information we received from ALL the pet stores in our area, I don't understand why are they carrying for puffers if they have no clue about the housing and requirements of this fish? Wish we came across this forum earlier...
