Today I happened to glance over at the DP tank and saw the male DP puffing! He nearly got to the size of a nickel before quickly deflating himself and hiding under a plant and then stared at me as I got close to the tank. lol
Anyone else see your DP's puff before?

I think it's another one of those things the sneaky little dps don't want us to see... I've only seen it a few times, the most recent was one that was dying...

Fortunately mine shows no signs of illness or death. Still buzzing around the tank. Guess I got lucky being in sight of the tank when he did it.

I never saw any of my DPs puffed. I only rarely saw a male displaying for one of the females...

Does anyone know what shrimp that is in Amys pic? Sorry, I know this is an old thread.. just reading back a lot and soaking up as much info as possible. I like that shrimp though (almost looks like a lobster) and was wondering if its really safe to keep with DPs?

Aw.. I know it's bad when they puff, but that little blimp put a smile on my face. What an epic visual!
I haven't seen my DPs puff, even when something startles them. In fact, I wasn't sure if DPs even puffed once upon a time... cos nothing really rattles my pair.
Great pic, thanks for sharing.

It's an orange Sakura shrimp. Color morph of the cherry shrimp. And I have seen my largest dp bite one of the new guys and he got about as big as the one in the picture above.

For the record, we have not seen our 3 DPs puff up. We used to see them 'flatten' and try to look taller when feeding time occurred, but that behavior has largely disappeared now that they are mature. Now they will zip over and feed together with no 'flattening' behavior, I presume they are used to one another and have learned there is enough room for everyone, and more than enough food

Sometimes my DP will puff if he's sleeping and something startles him.
