Hey guys

What is a 24/7 lighted macroalgae refugium?

Is it a part of a sump or is it separate?

Sorry if this is a stupid question

It can be added to a chamber of your sump but mine is plumbed in next to the tank. It has an overflow in the back that goes beck to the end of the sump.

Yes but I also keep a DSB & rubble in there for the pods to live & multiply.

As Pufferpunk pointed out, these are commonly used equally to grow macroalgae for nutrient export and to generate 'pods and related small critters as treats/snacks for the fish. I've used them behind displays with overflow to the display tank to get the 'pods etc. to the fish. So the units serve as water purification and treat production.
