do ramshorn snails need to be acclimatised?

Do they need to be floated in the bag in the tank?

I drop them from tank to tank all the time. I catch a several and don't feed them all and drop the extras in another tank.

Unless you are doing a move which involves large GH, KH, or pH changes (any or all of those parameters greater than a log difference) they need no adaptation.

My ramshorns all died, found the empty shells. They were in the community tank, with gouramis, rosy barbs, corys, guppies, and neon tetras. There's fw crabs in there now, but they were dead before they were added. Would any of the fish eaten the snails?

Probably... I have seen bettas pick on snails and I'm sure gouramis would too...

I'd say the barbs and cories probably helped also!

I have selected color varieties of snails and bred some for trade goods, but to me snails in general are either cleaning crew or food.

Excepting MTS. Those are always the enemy. Not even loaches can be counted on to clear them.

So there isn't any fish that will clear out mts? That is interesting...

Mts are sneaky buggers, loaches will only eat what they can find. They are immensely hardy and can survive a couple of years in a garden in a bag of gravel with our up and down British weather

LOL @ Bertie! The same situation applies here in the middle East coast of the USA. MTS are to hobbyists the snails from Hades. I had a hard time accepting that they could winter over in dry gravel. I have some heavy fiberglass trays that spread a shallow layer of gravel on and baked in the sun on one of decks in the late summer droughts...that has been a bit better at killing them off here, but does Merie Old England ever stay that hot and sunny?

The only alternative is boiling, and requires a lot of air exhaust to dump the aroma. I am not allowed to use my wife's enamel pots either.

The bags of gravel experienced blistering 30c heat through to sub zero temperatures, god only knows what temperature was achieved inside the black plastic bags. My friend took a bag a few months ago for his tank and boom snails appeared

Well, she does not want or ask to use my jumbo stainless steel super strainers either.

Nor do I share refrigerator space for live blackworms. I used to have our son's cast off dorm small 'fridge but it died and I have not replaced it. I just keep the blue trays in plastic trays under the tank room sink. That is cool enough. I don't get large portions at a time.

ha, I wish I could get a small refrigerator for fish food... when I get black worms, they "share" space in the meat drawer lol
