First morning with a puffer. As soon as I got up, I did a water test, went out in the garden for a ciggy and to let the dogs wee.

Cue tingling hands and feet. Rushed in and had a thorough wash. REALLY thought I was going to die from tetrodotoxin poisoning. My life flashed before me as I panicked and scrubbed my hands and arms raw.

It was the ciggy kicking in.

Ummm... what kind of ciggy was that???

Bog standard Marlboro Light, it was that first thing in the morning heady nicotine rush.

Not being poisoned.

I do so many dumb things it would be impossible to list them. I still overflow tanks while topping up. You would think that after so many years I would have learned not to do that...

Broke my rotating self-closing in/out valves when disconnecting my canister filter for first cleaning. I just turned it the wrong way, thinking "why did they make it so hard to remove". I finally disconnected (the wrong way), but was not water tight anymore after I managed to put it back in place (not easy, again a lot of force and bent plastic was involved).
I was the only filter I had...fixed with a little bit of ducttape and a lot of creativity, and it worked the 5 days I waited for the replacement to come back, without flooding my living room (only 90l tank, but still, i did not sleep well those 5 days....)

Yesterday, after doing a WC on my 90g & cleaning the intake tubes, I moved onto another room with the 125. I was in the basement, switching over the hose to start refilling & my Hubby is yelling down the stairs, that a tank is overflowing. I just couldn't fathom how a tank I just drained was overflowing! Well, when I got upstairs (taking my time, because I thought he was nuts), one of the filters I had cleaned the intake for, must have been pretty clogged up & the extra flow to it was causing the water to stream over the top. By the time I got back into the basement, it was a waterfall down there! I thought we were gonna live in this home forever, so I wasn't too concerned with all the water damage. Now that we're moving... let's just say Hubby isn't pleased!

arguably, you were being poisoned....just by nicotine, not tetrodotoxin

Rotfl! I can't think of any tank related stuff atm

Last month I was pumping water into a container to mix up salt but I got distracted. I caught it as it was about to over flow. I didn't have time to shut off the sink so I closed one of the valves and attempted to run it to the sink. Not before the pressure blew off the metal piece on the back of the faucet. Had ta replace the whole kitchen faucet. I learned a lesson that day.

I've blown up loads of heaters by forgetting to switch them off during water changes

That's why I only buy Jager heaters. They have an auto switch off, when the water level is down.

That's handy, I'll look into getting one of those when I blow up my current heater
