Would 1 DP be ok on its own?

This might dispell any fears of keeping puffers solo!
I have a single male DP, and he's quite the character! Used to be with a zebra danio, but after removing it I noticed a huge improvement in personality. If anything adding more fish takes away from the puffer experience!
My figure eight also is a loner, and similarly when previous tankmates were removed, I noticed more interesting personality features emerge.

It's hard to explain, but very evident if you ever kept puffers wih other fish vs alone.

DPs are frequently kept in groups due to their small size, but once mature, multiple males together are quite likely to fight, especially if females are also present. Female-only tanks are generally OK, or one male with 1-3 females. But IME, multiples are not necessary. A singleton can be more active than any given fish in a smallish tank. Some planting (real or artificial) is still beneficial. It provides security.
