I feel so guilty. Even though he has a belly full of snails, he tries to tell me that he is starving.

Puffers are very smart, they believe they are smarter than us. Maybe they are. This is where we have to refrain from over feeding, naughty you lol. It's too easy to over feed but very unhealthy for the puffer

+1 to bertie's comment. Learning not to overfeed is one of the hardest part of fish keeping.

They always look so pitiful, don't they? I am guilty as well of falling for "the Face" my Lucy needs a treadmill

Does he look overfed in the pics? His belly gets really round after eating his snails, but shrinks back down before bedtime. (I try to be very cautious, as I've heard the horror stories).

He has a bit more belly than I like to see on a GSP, but if he continues to be active after eating and is back down to a normal (not rounded) belly within hours, you are doing okay. Young GSPs - still in rapid growth - are pretty tricky to keep from over-feeding all the time. They are such good eaters most of the time and such food beggars that perfection is hard to achieve. You don't want to stunt them, and if you were immune to their antics you probably would not be here in the first place. Pufferholic anonymous would be an alternate label for this site....

On a more serious note, thanks for clarifying that bit about overfeeding. Feather's looking a little chubby too, but is still really active and goes down fast. By the way, Cinder, Hobart is a completely adorable name! Perfect for a puff XD

Hobart is never inactive unless he's sleeping. After I feed him he goes around to all the shells I haven's cleaned up and checks to make sure they are really empty. Then he just swims about the tank, looking at everything until I walk past again and he can try to make me feel like a bad puffer person for not dropping in another snail or two. He's worse than my dogs!!!
