I have three f8s and one gsp in a 50l tank. The gsp is missing a big chunk of flesh. I've put a barrier in between the GSP and the F8s. I don't know what to do.

You are constantly going to have BIG problems in that tank. There's no room for them to establish territories & will constantly be fighting. Add Melafix to heal the wound.

your tank is terribly overstocked, which will result in water quality issues also
a 50l tank isn't big enough for any one of those fish, let alone all three

You're preaching to the converted. I'm already answering ads for bigger tanks on Craigslist. They've seriously ripped the little guy a new one. I've got him in a jug of the tank water at the moment with some substrate, a heater and a desk fan blowing on it to disturb the surface, hopefully oxygenating the water. Gonna check the water quality and do a few changes throughout the day tomorrow as well as buying some Melafix (providing he hasn't dropped dead). Gonna call the culprit LFS and complain too, not that that will help things.

That's only going to make him worse. He's living in his own waste. He was better off with a divider & filtration. How are the parameters in that tank, BTW? Are you doing daily WC on there?

On the tank. ammonia 2.0, still. I'm hopefully getting a 240L tank tommorow. That, I can fishless cycle and then transfer the puffers to.

Are you sure? Even if i do a few water changes on the jug tommorow? The issues being that the f8s could easily jump the divide and also that the divider means that the rest of the tank is getting very poor filtration.

I'm afraid the poor fella may be doomed.

Probably. It's impressive how well he's doing, though, considering the injury.

I had to mercy kill him. He just had his fins wiggling with his face in the substrate all day. He was almost completely non-responsive and his gills were rapid and very open. So I took him out of the water. I couldn't bring myself to stomp him but it didn't take long for him to go anyway. I don't fancy doing that again any time soon.

On a much, much brighter side i have a 200(ish) liter tank for my three f-8s who seem to be getting on fine. I have all the necessary bits. It's now just a matter of switching the tanks which I have a plan for.

I had a feeling...
