I am considering getting a fahaka puffer. I have done a lot of research and know all about tank size requirements, adequate filter, single species tank, etc. My question is for those of you out there that own a full size fish. How much do you feed them a week and about how much does it cost you?

Welcome to the forum. A full sized fahaka only needs 2 good meals per week with snacks in between ( snails etc). Not particularly expensive to feed ime, any uncooked and unseasoned seafoods can be used and supplemented with the things you find in your lfs freezer. Growing fahakas need more regular feedings.

So what is a typical meal for your puffer?

Mine will eat 3-4 shrimp or 3-4 mussels or 2 clams or 8 earthworms or a couple chunks of scallop or a whole squid.

Roughly what pp said lol. Every puffer is different, feed little at a time until his/her tummy is slightly rounded, you will soon learn how much is enough for your wet pet.

Yup agree with Bertie. Every puffers is different and they do have a preference for food. My MBU absolutely hates squid. Even I think it too bland and chewy.. Lol..

I feed my adult Fahaka crayfish (I've started raising marbles so I can have a supply of healthy food on hand), snails, ghost shrimp, bloodworms, earth worms (don't like these much because the can make the water filthy looking), I also buy fresh uncooked coconut shrimp from the grocery. The snails, ghost shrimp, and bloodworms are more snacking foods or busy foods for mine. It takes him a while or pick up each little bloodworm off the substrate lol. I feed a good meal twice a week and give him a snack everyday

Once you learn to shop for larger fish, it is not that expensive in and on its own, The investment is in the equipment cost and the water/electricity costs.
