plants...or no plants

Hello all,
This is my first post so bear with me ^_^
I have a baby green spotted puffer. He is about an inch long and i want to convert him asap (gradually of course). He is the only resident in his tank...BUT my biggest problem is my plants. I don't want them to die or anything. I have read somewhere that plants could be acclimated slowly but...meh..idk. I have some swords,lilaeopsis, H.C and java ferns. I love my plants..i love my puffer..Help?
