hey

I just bought a young Chonerhinus modestus( two days ago). i like him(or her ) quite a lot but had an inkling that he had ick and low and behold it reached visible size overnight., i plan on treating this with the standard heat treatment, it has served me well . i also noticed that he has a bump on his fore head that just showed up , any one know what this is ? , here is a description of my tank

30 gallon Planted.sand/gravel over dirt
Ph:7.5
Gh:11
Ammonia:0
Nitrite:0
nitrate:0
Temp:83F
Fresh water with with a little less than a teaspoon of marine salt every ten gallons. I have been slowly raising it a bit.
it is a fully cycled and planted tank about 7 months old. An 6 gallon water change every week.

any help would be Appreciated

well for the ick, please read the sticky in this forum. whatever you do DONT TREAT WITH COPPER! copper is highly toxic to puffers, as they are scaleless fish.


as for the bump on his head, is it the same color as his flesh? it could be a nematode. any chance of getting a pic up?

are you using the salt as a ick treatment? this type of puffer is purely FW, and doesnt need any salt. salt will also kill plants at higher salinitys, although a teaspoon per gallon is basically still FW.

I never use copper sulfate , its way to harsh,The bump is the exact color of his head , looks almost like a blister. As for the salt i was trying to slowly lower it (sorry about before i think i wrote raising?) to completely fresh as they had him in a bit of salt at the store( not brackish but not fresh). no I'm not using it as a treatment for the ick as the water he came from had more salt than my own.I have found once fish have been kept at higher salinity levels the ick is quite resistant to salt. as for the pic i dont think i can get one right now.
