Hi guys,

Would you please help me identify this puffer?
I bought it as a certain species but I am unsure if its is what its supposed to be. I'll hold back on saying what species that is for the time being though in case if sways opinion.

Feel free to ask any questions re. feeding, habits etc. that might help.

OK....people have looked but no ones sticking their neck out with an identification so...

I bought him unseen as a 'Hairy Puffer' T. Baileyi....which I don't believe it is and through another forum, it appears to be a Suvatti.

Just want the opinion of a dedicated puffer forum. So what's the opinions?

My 1st guess is suvattii. Does it have a "V" on it's head?

No, not a noticeable one at least. Thats the only thing making me doubt the Suvatti identification. Do they all have this marking?

probably a suvatti but the colouration is muted due to a change in his enviroment. Leave him a couple of days to settle in and the v shape should be more dominant.

He's been in the tank a week or two and is feeding and healthy. His colouration very much depends on his location in the tank. If he's resting on the sand he's the colour you see in the pictures. If he's on or under the bogwood he is a much darker brown. I haven't noticed an arrow pattern during either.

In terms of behaviour, he generally hangs out in caves or under bogwood but I did find him buried in the sand on one occasion.
Food wise, he ignores cockles in the shell but greedily rushes out to gobble them down when offered unshelled via tongs.

Demands to be hand-fed? Spoiled brat!

It's a suvatti. I can see a partial arrow and the eyes are not right for a harry.

Both puffers are approx from what I've seen the same price so I wouldn't get to angry
