bigger tank, but how big?

Hi! We have had Eustace, our GSP for a little over a year and he has grown a lot, as hoped/expected. Anyway, right now he is in a 15 gallon tank and I think it is time to move him up to a bigger home. We have a variety of tanks in many sizes and my question is this: Should I move him into gradually bigger tanks or just move him to a 55 gallon (or bigger?) tank now? Does it matter? He is about 1 1/2 -2" long at this point. He has no tank mates and seems pretty happy.
Thanks!

Go straight for his forever home. He will fill a tank of any size with personality, I love small puffers in big tanks they go to every inch in search of a tasty treat to munch on.

Huge +1 to bertie's comments above. My practice is to go from the QT tank to the fish's permanent home. That provides for maximum growth, health, and best configuration. I have not always done that, but I have learned that if I want full-sized, normal configuration, healthy and long-lived fish, that is the way to go.

Thank you! He will be going into the big tank hopefully this weekend! Got to get it all staged.
