hi i currently am running a full reef marine setup. its 50 gallons. its full of live rock and mainly soft corals like buttons, mushrooms, pink muppet coral and rics. it also has some lps ie acans, hammer, tourch, duncans and very few sps mainly hystrix and plates.

now im sure the hermits and shrimps would need to go but do you think a gsp would attack the corals. has anyone on here had any experience in keeping one in a full reef or is it not possiable. ?????????

i also have a pair of perc clowns, a yellow tang, a yellow belly wrase and a six line wrase along with a coral beauty. all of which are more than big enough to hold there own against a agressive fish. in fact i have found size is nothing in fish when it comes to agression as my smallest fish the six line wrase is my most agressive to other fish and my clowns are very agressive to my hand.

how quick could one of these be put over to marine conditions as i have no qt tank i would need to do pretty fast. as they live in tidal rivers at first im sure they could deal with a swing quite fast if needed but maybe wrong which is why im asking.....please dont shot me down.

im dying to go back to puffers as i loved our figure 8s i had in a fresh water setup before i had my marine tank and i simple cant buy a porcapine puffer (what i really want) with my tank size and cant justifie a bigger tank if i cant keep corals too.

I had a GSP in full marine with mushrooms, button polyps, and a green trumpet and he didn't bother any of them. But, I placed him, because I got completed addicted to corals, wanted more and didn't want to take any chances. I placed him with a guy who wanted one, had a reef set up, but was willing to take the chance with him. I've also heard, it depends on the GSP. If they are well-fed, he may be just fine. Each has it's own personality. Mine did go after any snails I had, and I at that time didn't have shrimp, which for sure would be victims, unless they could stay hidden in live rock He got along just fine with the 2 clowns I had and one yellow tail damsel. Of course, since then I've added more fish, but I don't think getting along with fish is that big of a concern, especially as most are all sold as babies.

You can drip acclimate him to full marine, over a long period, say 2-3 hours. Let's see what others say. I'm sure you'll get many different opinions.

Also, mine was only about 8 months old when I placed him, so who knows what would happen with corals if he was full grown. That I don't know. I've heard some people keep them successfully, and some don't.

I agree, 2 to 3 hours...maybe less.

I have a new GSP that I drip acclimated just a couple of weeks ago to full marine. Took about 3 hours and he did just fine. I have a couple polyps and a mushroom growing on my live rock, and he checked them out when he first saw them but didn't make any move to take a bite out of them.

I absolutely would NOT trust a GSP in a reef tank with those corals you have!

thanks for the replys guys. puffer punk why do you say you wouldnt trust a gsp. you have said that much but no reason for what you said. the guys who have had them in a reef seam to say there ok. have you also had one in a reef??????? any bad experences etc........could you please open up a bit more on why your answer is what it is please.

as for 2/3 hours.....thats cool i was thinking of more like a week or so as i have a little tank thats about the size of the lfs ones they keep them in so could setup for a week or so before getting him into main tank.

im seriouly thinking of getting rid of many of my corals anyway. the sps are a pain to keep. the lps i wouldnt want to risk as most come from my late fathers tank so would want to see them on to a nice new tank safely else where and the softies grow so fast that if there was any small amount of grazing i dont think it would matter.

The gsp will likely munch on your corals.

Mine chewed on zoas. That's when the puffer got re-homed.

oh thats a shame.........i guess there all different as some say there ok and some say not.............hhhmmmmmmmmmmm and i really wanted to go back to puffers

Set up a separate tank for one.

with the misses saying get rid of this one i dont think shell take another tank plus just had a baby which is why i dont have time to look after corals anymore fish are easy compared to corals

She will come round, my wife did. Now I keep getting earache to set up a dp tank lol. Why not treat your wife to a spa weekend and quickly set it up whilst she is gone lol
