Tank for baby fahaka okay?

So I've got an 80G tank right now set up as brackish with aragnoite sand in it that is just housing two F8's and 2 sailfin mollies. I've been charmed by fahakas in the past and really want to get one. If I move those guys to other tanks and convert to freshwater, would it be acceptable to house say a 2-3'' fahaka starting out for appx 6 months until I move and get a new tank? I'm in an apt. now, but should have a house in 6 months and I'm always on the lookout for amazing tank deals for 120+ g tanks on craigslist.

Within 6 months a 3" fahaka should be pushing 9"+. The footprint would be an issue. Fahakas should start out in their forever homes. Sometimes things happen and tanks don't get upgraded etc etc. I recommend you wait until you have a suitable tank. For the record I don't believe 120g is really big enough for a fahaka, if I was to get another I would look for 150+ usg but more likely 200usg. That's just me though.

Like I said before it is totally your choice, these puppy dog type fish are well worth giving a little more though. So in my opinion you are making the right choice in holding off. You have experience on your side and you will get one soon enough once a suitable tank is situated and ready. They are so worth it though so definately consider one.

Personally, if you can find one at 1-2", he'll be fine in the 80g. I'd be more concerned with the harder water & higher pH in there.

If I had a tank like that I would keep it brackish and get a few more Figure 8's or go high brackish/marine and get a couple GSP's or Ceylon Puffers.

I agree with bert. On having to wait if uncertain. But an 80g would make feeding such a lil guy easier
