Do you have air stones in your puffer tank? I have a 200 gallon I want to add a air stone but am scared its going to mess up the sand substrate do fahakas like air stones? How can I put it in without it blowing sand all over

I don't use them in any of my tanks but i have heard that puffers like to play in the bubbles.

Air wands are a good choice, also you could place an air stone on a flat stone or piece of slate. My fahaka always say with his bum on the airstone, was funny

I use air stones and bubble wands in some of my tanks. I like them for a few reasons.

I have tanks near the kitchen, so the air can get hot causing water temp to rise during the summer. So, the bubblers help with oxygen levels. At least I think they do I would rather be safe than sorry.

I like fake plants so air stones helps circulate water around those plants. Also, I feel that plants and decor can be nitrate (poop and food) trappers, so the bubblers *help* keep them from say going to the back of the tank and getting stuck back there where I can see or can't reach with my net. BUT, remember to clean under the bubblers during water changes! You would be surprised what can get under them.

On my 75 I can't fit and extra filter on one side so I use the bubbles for circulation and to even the temp

My gsps like to sit on their bubble wand and play in the bubbles in the top of the tank.



I just hide bubbles behind plants (in the back of the tank), in decor and some bubble wands you can stick on the glass of the tank. Mine don't really blow sand around unless sand falls on them. However, I haven't found a way to put them under sand. If you put one under sand, it would blow the sand around.

I put it on a flat rock that I buried in then sand then put small river rocks around to hide the bubbler it looks nice ill try n post a pic or two

Pure personal choice item. Personally, I hate air stones, but I do use a lot more pumps in my tanks that most folks do, so my currents are always fine-tuned and oxygenation is never an issue. I have a "thing" about salt-creep, or algae/mineral build-up on cover glasses. No surface breaks are allowed in my tanks if at all possible.

If you like bubbles, and are willing to do the extra upkeep, by all means use such.

I agree it is a personal choice but do whatever makes your fish happy.
