Is a black belly typical or a sign of illness? It's stated that it's 4.5" long.

It's either a fig 8 or a Ceylon. Prob a fig 8. It is not a freshwater puffer and is desperately sick/ dieing, or extremely stressed. Is it your puffer?

Poor thing looks awful.

Could be IPs and/or the fact that it's almost an adult & still in FW. My guess it was caught in high-end BW & forced into FW for convince.

Alternate between meaty green shelled mussels and crawdads and he will be alright...assuming his water changes.. He actually doesnt look all that bad, sure hes skinny but hes way closer to life than death so far.

People will disagree with me, but IMO that is 100% a giant Indian spotted puffer.

Looks just like Hilly's, markings are different than a green spot, f8 or Ceylon. His spots are leopard looking and not the typically round or slightly irregularly spots of green spots. There is also no banding as seen in Ceylon.

Edit to add, has some banding but not like a Ceylon. I know everyone will disagree with me, me just stating my opinion..take it or leave it. no worries

Just a few times! It's the Leopard markings. If it just had spots..then Ceylon.

Ceylon in my opinion...

The large patches make me agree that its a cylon...i mean ceylon. So say we all!...lol only a few will get that reference.
