The Puffer Forum

Does anyone have any information about this species? I have looked online, but nearly all the information, especially in forums, is word for word repeat from lievaquaria.com.

It is an expensive creature IMO, so I wanted to know how hardy it is, could it survive shipping if I can't find it locally, and what is the average life expectancy?

It would be housed as a singleton, with no other fish in a 20 gallon long. Also, it would not be food for my puffer, although they will beg for it.

Wow! What a gorgeous critter. I can't help with specifics but crayfish in general seem fairly hardy and tend to adapt well. I mean just look how they take over anywhere they get released. So long as extremes are avoided you should be fine. Having said that if they are in fact bred to look like this there can be health issues inbred so take any first hand experience over what I have said.

If I was a puffer I would say that looks pretty tasty.

I "think" it was selectivly bred to look like that, but I am not sure. I do think it would probably be hardy, I just want to make sure before I spend money on it.

Hum that's weird. Liveaquaria has it on sale now. $44 down to $34... weird. Last night i swear it was$54, I even remember showing the price to my hubby. Still exspensive.

yea 54 was a little excessive...try your lfs store first and see if they can order it for you...my lfs had it for 19.99 a few months back. good luck!

There are several strains of "Blue" and/or "Cobalt Blue" "lobsters" (actually crayfish of course). The best should have the most stable color, but there can be strain as well as individual variations in the color. They do tend to be pretty easy and hardy, but the better they are maintaned, the longer they will live. C0-house only for breeding to avoid fights and injuries - they are highly territorial. They absolutely must heve secure shelter when they have molted.

ok, I am going to look into getting this locally. It will probably be one of those things I will have to wait for, but it will probably be worth the wait

I see blue, red & bright orange ones around here. There is a shrimp breeder that comes around to the cichlid swaps. Didn't know there were so many colorfully-marked lil FW shrimps out there! He sells the colored crays, too.
