WOW! I have never seen so many spam messages at once! There were seven or more this morning. We are really getting hit hard.

IDK what to do about them anymore. The question to register is about as hard as it can get, without stumping a normal person.

It might not even be bots that do the registering , or at least supplying the answers. Some time ago I came across a website that would pay you $... dollars for every 1000 captcha solves you did.

As the solutions get more annoying for real users, the bots get more advanced. Not to mention that you can pay certain companies to spam forums with real people.

Just imagine how much spam there would be without any spam prevention . I personally think the post approval works, but it is off-putting to new users.

Perhaps the report button could push posts to that post approval and out of sight when the poster has <10 posts. This would leave a small portion of threads open to abuse sadly enough. Or perhaps a new type of moderator that can only soft-delete threads or push to the post approval for real mods to look at and deal with.

Oh well, just a few random thoughts on the subject.

Several of the anti-spam processes would definitely defeat me, with my weak vision. Several have in the past.

I fear that we cannot ever be free of spam and maintain any level of openness to new members - which is why we are here.
