if i have a 120g tank, and i add two 70g filters on opposite corners would that suffice? or is there some technicality that it makes no difference and Im better off getting one giant filter?

2 would be better flow. I have a 125g with 2 AC 110s & an Eheim 2217,

oh awesome. Then thats what ill do here in the near future. id rather just buy another 70g filter and save the money instead of buying one new expensive filter. that way i still keep my 70g filter and the benefits of it already being cycled.

Plus if one breaks you are not fresh out of filters. I always have multiple forms of filtration on larger tanks.

Multifiltering is good for backup if one fails, pads can be replaced with less risk to your system if needed, cleaning of filters can be more thorough as you can alternate filters, you can also tailor flow more efficiently. It's the way forward

Multi-filtering makes me life easier. They allow for easier adjusting or balancing of flows and avoidance of dead spots.

The upkeep advantages bertie mentioned are helpful as well.
