Not getting snails!

I have two amazon puffers, had them for about 3 weeks. I've been feeding them bloodworms and trying to get them to eat snails but they just don't seem to get it. I've crushed them and seen one picking at it, but I didn't feed them anything g else today, they are acting starving, but are ignoring the snails, even the ones I crushed. Any ideas how to tempt them? The one was pretty thin so I've been feeding bloodworms, but he looks better, should I withhold any food other than the snails? Any ideas would be great. Thanks!

I spent a frustrating week trying to get my mbu eating the stuff I had..
Did you ask your LFS what they had been fed on before you bought them?? a good LFS will be able to tell you what they were eating under thier care to give you some guidence as to what your new puffers prefer.

Odds are, the LFS probably didn't have them long enough to see or even realize what they "may have" eaten there.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, the "supplier" did indicate they were eating "canned crabmeat, frozen bloodworms and flake foods".

No mention of snails. I wonder how long they are with the supplier after they are caught? Canned crabmeat is weird and I know flake foods are out... If this is what they were eating, how hard is it going to be for them to get snails?

You have to keep training them to snails. they need to be the right kind of snails (ramhorns or common pond snails) and the right size (about the size of their eye). Continue crushing them until they catch on fore themselves. Without a diet very high in crunch, you will be doing lots of dentistry.
