Hello,

if I raised the density to 1.023 could I keep a Halimeda discoidea without blue light?
Would it survive?
Or does it need special light like corals ?

I don't see why you'd need blue lights to grow anything, it's the white ones (daylight) that produces growth. Blue lights enhance color.

ok thanks ! I just wanted to know because I have only white lights in my aquarium! And I thought if I put this algae in it I would need blue ones.

Some actinic bulbs are mixed phosphors in the tubes, blue and white appearance. Some of macro-algae do need rather high Kelvin lighting for optimum growth. I don't about that particular macro.

BTW: That specific gravity is full marine, not brackish conditions.

if you want to rise to 1.023 i see no problem to go on 1.025, a nice marine.
i had not good history with Halimedas & caulerpas below 1.024.

Check Mg, Ca & K from now.

For me most Caulerpas are pretty easy and non-demanding on densities - they should not need Red Sea levels of density.

I don't have enough experience w/Halimeda to say what it needs.

High density SW if not needed is a waste.

I agree--if not keeping corals, 1.020 is fine.

Hello, I have a problem with the Halimeda discoidea.

I put it in the sand a few days ago. The water is marine, temperature 24-25 Celsius.
The colour of it looks fine. The plant is brighter at the top. However the lower part of it is dark green. And the plant seems to have gotten very soft.
Could it the stream be too strong? When I got it it was not as soft as right now.
