Hi there,

I went to my LFS the other day and they have a puffer that looks very much like a dog face but the guys were saying he was 30 years old! I thought dog faces were supposed to live around 15 years? Maybe it was something different, anyone any ideas?

What size was he?

I guess anything is possible, but I just can't trust what a pet store employee says, that age seems unlikely because puffers are not often cared for well enough for them to reach old age.

He does a little but colours are different, he's kind of like a Stars and Stripes but without the stripes! I'd say he is about 24 inches, but lives in a big tank, about ten feet long.

24 in including the tail?

No he's defo not a map puffer, he doesn't have that many spots and his belly is totally plain greyish? I will have to go back and get a picture of him, he is gorgeous! And yes 24 inches inc tail

Yes get a pic! But I still would have a hard time believing it is 30 years old........but ya never know

Unless they kept it for 30 years, IDK how they'd know it was that old.

Maybe someone brought it in to the shop as they couldn't care for it anymore. Saying that though why would you give up a pet you've had for 30 years.

Cannot wait to see the pix/vids, can you hold up a dollar bill next to it to give us an idea of how big it actually is?

He is in a aquatics shop that has several branches, apparently he has had several homes in the different shops and they have had him from a baby! He's kinda a shop mascot, very adorable, he rubs his face on the glass when he sees you.
Next time I go I will try to get a decent picture, can't put a dollar bill next to him tho as I live in the uk!

30 years are possible with proper care. I know such Arothron specimens from zoos.
