Hi there!
I was reading about some feeder shrimps for my puffers, and i make a stop on the amano shrimp, many puffer keepers in USA said that is a good source of live food, but they are expensive in my country... so... Does any one knows how to breed them or have ever read a trustable article or works about their reproduction.

I think a local pet store breeds them in freshwater, they have a gigantic female in the shrimp tank. I am unsure though if they actually breed them there or not. I did read an article some time ago about amano breeding and it seemed like a hassle having to separate the females and what not, I am ofcourse not sure if that was necessary or not. I'll try and find the article.

Amano shrimp can and have been bred and reared in captivity, but it quite an advanced technique. It is roughly comparable to rearing clownfish larvae in captivity, but with the added complication of the adults being FW but the immature offspring are planktonic. This requires moving the released offspring into marine conditions and rearing them on cultured plankton. Them net cost per mature shrimp makes them far too expensive to serve as feeders, even for the most advanced hobbyists. It is possible but completely impractical.

Red cherry shrimp are far easier to breed, but the time, space, and care required to get them up to usual feeder size (full adult, breeder size) is in itself not very practical. Smallish (i.e., immature) shrimp do not have enough "crunch" to make them adequate for many puffers.

Yep, i´ve seen they are more pets than food lol.

Well, i think ill start a project to breed this shrimp if i find them at accesible prices, we just got a 80gal container to "mature" marine water and i know a "Nannochloropsis" (phytoplankton) culture provider, also some cladophora y Chaetomorpha is on my tank.

I think i could adapt some corner to breed this shrimps, as i feel it like as a challenge, not any longer to use them as feeders.
