My new F8 Puffer and some new decorations. They came a week early which kinda sucked since I am still waiting on my overflow box, am practically out of salt and still dont have my aragonite sand. But most of that should arrive tomorrow/early next week.

At any rate:

The new fake roots


The root with the face was a very snug fit due to the background, but its so awesome, it's hollow on the inside and actually has a second face on the other side.

And the F8 puffer.

No name yet, he seems very laid back and a bit timid. He def. had his fins nipped where he was held previously and has some really nice markings. Gonna observe him a couple of days before I give him a name.
So far he is staying at the right side of the tank, I am wondering if he spotted the snails in the other tank that is a meter away from his own tank.

He finally started exploring a little, nipping at the various decor and eating some of the baby snails.

Puffer readily ate the bloodworms I had, wanted to give him snails but whilst the ramhorns have made a lot of eggsacks none of the new snails are large enough, on the other hand all the juvinile ramhorns that came with the plants are now gone from the F8s tank . Apparently the shrimp can push themselves through the water flow grate in the 3d background as I found them behind the background again unless they take a trip across the background to the other side. Not sure what is so interesting there, put a few back at the front and I've seen the F8 chase at least one of them .

Salinity is currently the same as the water that the puffer came in, 1.001sg.



Is there anything I can add to the water or soak the food in that will help restore the fins a bit? Not that I will like him less with the beaten up fins, just feel sorry for him .

Keeping the water quality high and feeding properly is for me the best treatment for nipped fins. Many folks here swear by Melafix, but I don't like the smell.

The shrimp are likely taking refuge from the predator out in the display.

Plenty of snails in the right size range are the best F-8 food for me.

Thanks, I'll see how it goes then, rather not put anything in the water if I can avoid it.

With the puffer arriving a week early my snails arent ready yet, I might check out the frozen sea food section for some crunch but I am not sure if they sell anything that has not been treated in a harmful way. Did see big snails that didnt seem processed other than having been frozen but I haven't read the text on the back of the package.

I'm one of those who swear by Melafix & love the smell.

I got a figure 8 puffer from the Petco and his fins were nipped really bad, however over the course of the three months i have had him i have not used any melafix and his fins grew back great.
