Hi everyone :

Just joined your site and was so pleased to find like minded MBU keepers

I have just recently bought myself a new baby MBU puffer, very excited! Not got him yet, just organising his tank etc at the moment.

Anyone out there got any helpful hints?

All we can offer as advice is you need a massive tank, in the region of 1000 gallons. Much bigger would be better, even with that size you may have problems with water quality as the fish matures. Welcome to the forum, where abouts you from?

A large tank indeed! I am very aware of the size that these fish grow! Do you keep MBUs?

Not personally but have spoken to and heard so much from others here. I could never house such a monster right now lol. I keep a fahaka that is around 14" long. You are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of England, I head down every summer to feast on real pasties and fresh air lol.

My lil newbie is only 6" long or so atm. Very cute and very active as you would expect.

I kept a MBU some years ago ("boo") who i sadly lost 3 years ago which was absolutely devistating. He stopped eating for no known reason and despite every effort and much research, he slowly drifted away, which was heartbreaking. He had been a massive part of my life although i only had him for 6 years. He was very playful (loved a ping pong ball on the water! - obviously while he was still so little that it was not a danger) and i was able to hand feed him too, he was very gentle. I truly believe that these puffers are almost like aquatic dogs in their behavior and really can feel a sense of lonliness when there is not enough interaction with them. Funnily enough now i think of it, when my daughter was born almost 6 years ago, Boo was often the only thing that would stop her from crying lol, just to hold her up to the tank so she could watch him (and of course he would come to the glass to greet her!). Sorry... i do waffle on... anyway,

It has taken me this long to decide i am ready for another. This time i am approaching his care a little differently in that i feel some of the "guidence" we were given from our local aquatics centre was more than a little iffy. i realise that now, and regret some of the choices we made for boo. So, i am hugely appreciative of any useful tips from fellow MBU keepers, lets keep this little one happy happy happy

Looking forward to a long companionship with him Also trying to think of a name for him, maybe Dylan. What do you think?

Puffers and kids mix very well, my four year old loves mine lol
