Hey Guys

Has anyone seen this Puffer before?

That looks seriously photoshopped to me, we will see what Corvus has on this?

Definitely photoshopped. The face looks very much like a porc though.

I just emailed the guy that owns the website asking if it was real and not photoshopped and this was his response:-

Absolutely!! Shot in New Guinea if I remember correctly but to be more accurate I have to check my records. All my photos are real and shot in the wild. I NEVER shoot captive animals or manipulate photos in photoshop.

Yeah, Im not going to say photoshopped. There are really some really rare species out in the blue ocean that has yet to be discovered. There was just an angelfish that was just discovered here recently, that being displayed at a public aquarium.

It's a Diodontid but beyond that I have no clue.

Looks like a very young juvenile. My guess is Cyclichthys, either Cyclichthys orbicularis or Cyclichthys hardenbergi.But that's really mostly a guess based on the spines, juveniles that small are not often illustrated or used for ID.

They really start out that red?

IDK as noted above I based this just on the spines. The very small juveniles of marine puffers and diodontids can have weird colors ( D. hystrix are deep blue e.g., small A. reticularis are black, A. stellatus are deep red, the yellow then grey...), though I would not call this one extremely colored.
