Few members keep Fahakas in a 125 gal. I would say yeah it works.

Btw, did you get that Congo puffer?

Not wide enough. 24" wide is the suitable tank according to pufferpedia.

Everything but the width is fine, IMO. However, plenty of people use the standard 125 gallon for their fish and it's fine. I just hate the turnaround room in most of the tanks.

24" width would be great, but the common 125 gallon tank is 18 1/2" wide.

I'm in no way saying that the OP shouldn't aim for a tank with more width, but they are harder to come by unless custom made.

A 125 gallon bowfront would fit the needs of this much nicer, but those are more rare too.

120g are common in the states that offer the 24" width. I see many of them on craigslist. 180s and 2xx are less common, but show up for a good deal every once in a while. I'd rehome a Fahaka from a 125g after growing past the 12inch mark, which is 1 year or less.

PPs fahaka is only ~12inches and probably will not grow any longer.

Like I said, try to find a tank with more width. See if maybe someone will trade you. If you can't find a tank with more width consider another puffer.

I have said it before and will say it again: Keeping an 18" fish in a tank 18" deep is cruelty. The fish will either be stunted or will damage its nose or caudal fin or both. Try living in a space that is 1/2" larger than your maximum dimension. NIMFT.

Minor correction:

"Width" in tanks terms is what likely should be call length - it is the measure left to right, one end to the other, generally the tank's maximum dimension.

"Depth" in a tank is the front-to-back measure - which maximized confusion. Most folks would call tank depth its height, but manufacturers use height.

HTH

Either he is just a smaller fish (hey, I'm pretty short!) or he's stunted.

How can you just say that the fish "will not grow any longer"?

I read somewhere that Fahakas will reach 12" within the first 1-2 years, then the rest of the 6" grows later.

Once they hit maturity growth slows. Pps fahaka is quite old now and probably very little growth left if any at all

PP's Fahaka may not grow very much more, but it will continue growing slowly. Fish never stop growing, they just do so very slowly once fully mature.
