Anyone had any success keeping these as tankmates? Perhaps if they've both been obtained as juvies?

It is highly suggested not to keep different puffer species or even conspecifics together.

Oh I see. I was just curious because I've read several threads on here with people talking about successfully keeping different kinds of puffers together, such as SAP and gsp

SAP and GSP don't even have the same requirements, so that's false. And when you're considering animals that live 15+ years, someone saying that they kept two puffers together for a year or two, doesn't count.

Lol ok well I'm just quoting what I read here. I was just wondering if they could be kept together but thank you for enlightening me on the matter

I do not believe you have ever seen anyone ever post here that they successfully kept SAPs & GSPs together. if you have seen this, please let me know!

Ok I'll try to find the post, I was just looking through some of the old threads and happened upon someone mentioning they kept them. Maybe I misread and he said he kept them but in separate tanks? I'm not sure but from the wording that's what I understood lol.

I also just came across a thread where you mentioned you kept a gsp and a Ceylon puffer for many years? I'm not trying to stir anything up, I'm just trying to understand if perhaps some puffers can do well together and where you learned that it's recommended not to keep ANY different kinds of puffers together at all. I've been researching and I haven't been able to find any info

If introduced together at a young age and if you had a large tank probably 70+ you could try it the larger the tank size the better. A gsp and the Ceylon

The only two other puffers that are schooling are sap and dwarf puffers.

Sap's will need their teeth trimmed probably unless you give them a 90% diet of snails and hard food. 15g each

Dwarfs are nice too if you get 2 females and a male you could do a 20 long

gsp's can be but they need 30 gallon's each and bigger is def better in this case.

red eye puffers can kind be kept together large tank 10g's each

listed are only minimums again bigger = better.

Not really other puffers should be kept together I think..

Sorry I mean the gsp and the ceylon. I don't think a porc and a gsp would be compatible.

The pork gets much bigger than the gsp which is a recipe for disaster. Gsp and Ceylon can work depending on individual temperaments but a large tank would be highly suggested, something 75g or preferably even bigger

Minor correction: Lots of puffers school. Most do so only as immature juveniles or out of breeding season. They just need more water/swimming space than tanks provide easily.

Another point: Co-housing puffers always involves risks. It is risky enough with con-specifics. A porc and a GSP are from different families - that is rather extreme IMHO to even attempt. NIMFT, never.
