Hi you all ! I am new to this forum. And relatively new to puffers. I was introduced to you by people on Monsterfishkeepers website. Great site with alot of info. I got bit by my puffer 6-7 mo's ago. I pick up my GSP from my LFS. Feel in love with the little puff. So as most people, I didn't know what I was getting into. I started doing my research as much as yahoo.com and google could provide me. Just the basic stuff. Like water parameters, SG, etc... I was in for a ride. And at 10+years, thats a long ride ! Though I am learning everyday about GSP's. I am also learning about other puffers like the Fahaka and the MBU. Once I can get my experience with the GSPs alot higher, I want to get both of these (of course in there own tanks of appropriate size). What started me with fish keep is my little beta fish that I had for 1 year. He recently passed. He is what started me going into the LFS and websites. I currently have 4 GSP's in my 60 gal tank. The largest one is the oldest and the first. His name is Feijai(chinese for Fat-boy), next largest is "B" when I got him, he had a mark on his side that resembled a "B", the 2 smallest and newest are "The Twins", they both have similar spots. I keep my water in check. And over filtration. 60gal tank@120gal filters I change my water @25% every Tuesday,thrusday,sunday. I have the API master FW kit. My aquascaping consist of 1 large castle for hiding, 1 rock arrangement several plants Swords, Nubius, Creeps, Red Tiger Lotus. My substrate is Fluval Stratum.

Welcome to the forum here. I'm still kinda new to this place too but you will get only the BEST info when it comes to puffers here! I've learned so much and gotten great advice on them and just aquariums in general from the people here, very good group!

I can tell you off the bat that your tank is too small for 4 GSP's. They are going to require min 30 Gal EACH. There are a few people that own Fahaka puffers here so they will give you great advice on them. As far as a MBU puffer goes they need a 1,200 gal aquarium, not many people can house a monster like that. This is my limited info for now, i know more people will chime in.

You're going to need to invest in a 125 gallon, or larger, or think about rehoming somce of those puffers. As Gooburz said, they require 30 gallon MINIMUM, and more appropriately 55g per puffer. MonsterFishKeepers is a poor site when it comes to correct information and housing your fish for the best life they can have.


Green spotted puffer are High-end brackish 1.018 or saltwater. (Cheaper to run saltwater in the long run)

Now, GSP need 30 gal each. I know 60gal is a big tank but is too small for four of them

GSP are also SW puffer. First you would start them of in brackish but them $alt water is a mast.

Hi welcome, glad you got bit by the puffer bug and found us. I agree with the others that you will need a larger tank size eventually, but I would probably split them into 2 60g tanks instead of keeping them all together in 1 large tank. This will keep down aggression and stress between the individuals because as the puffers get older they will very likely become more aggressive towards each other, and as a not schooling puffer keeping them in smaller groups will allow their individual personalities shine through more.


p.s. good job on keeping up such regular water changes, are you using Co2 to keep the plants happy?

Thanks for the info. Don't worry this is just temp. I am sourcing an new tank as we speak... I have found some smoking deals on 200Gal both glass and acrylic. We shall see what i can find. I know GSP need 30 min, I feel bad for them in this tank currently. But if I can't find my 120+ tank then i'll have to buy 2 30gals and have tanks everwhere in my house. I currently have 1 55 salt tank i want to get going for my Largest GSP. So worst come to worst i'll start that tank put 1 in there and buy a 30gal for the other. THAT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF FILTERS !?. Or maybe i can get away with 2 in ea tank ? Eh never mind I wouldn't want them to feel cramped. Thanks for the info everyone and the warm welcome. This is my largest GSP and my oldest. He looks to be a 3-4 inch. But he is more yellow than the GSP's ?

I've noticed that too, if I'm not trying to take a pic of my little guy he is in front of the glass giving my jazz fins. If I grab my camera and try to take a picture or a video suddenly aaahh stay awayyy!

Ha ha jazz fins, I can't believe that stuck. My fahaka is only too keen to let me photograph him, it's my poo photography skills that ruin the pics, rem I mean it's a rubbish camera lol

Jazz fins is probably 1 of my favorite learned terms from this forum = D
