Would that absorb the nutrients causing the long hair algae in my F8's tank?

If it survives it should, but grooming it will be tricky. I have never tried to keep Marimo balls (it is a Cladophora alga) without Amano shrimp - they groom it almost constantly - it must collect as much fine debris and algae as a sponge filter intake would.

I can see it now, a veggie filter of Marimo balls and Amanos - that would be so elegant. Upkeep: squeeze gently and turn over weekly (immediately prior to a water partial) please!

They do reproduce, but it is soo slow...

hmm how about combination of Marimo Balls and Nerite Snails.. since the Nerite snails love cleaning up algae in a tank .. that Marimo Balls look so cute.. my sister got one in her Amazon Tank for the Discus.. and I read somewhere that Marimo Balls will survive in BW .. I want to be sure so I will get one for my tank.. it cause $10Can for a size of a Tennis ball that I can get from a Local PJ's Pet store

I will get some Nerite Snails when they are in the store in a week or two... I think my puffer will not be interest eating snails as I can feel it. He/she ( I can't tell the gender) so friendly with all 3 mollies as well as the baby mollies that about a size of a Sesame seed that swimming around the tank.

Nerites can only clean flattish surfaces, certainly not a fuzzy globe of Cladophora. There are nerites in the tanks with my Marimo balls and the never go on them that I have seen.

hmm.. thanks for the info. I will get a Algae Ball for my Tank.. will the Ball survive if I just drop into BW tank.. or do I need to convert it slowly like a fish cause LFS put those Marimo/Algae Ball in a FW tank.

Anthing alive should IMHO be converted slowly to radical changes in density or TDS.

What SG is your tank? You'll have to let us know how well it holds up in salt water. I want one, and the local petland has a small one in one of their tanks I'd love to pick up.
