It is sad to say but my F8's all lost their lives today including my aquarium they were in. I'm getting ready to move into a better place and as a requirement we had to have the carpets professionally steam cleaned and while they were cleaning the guy must have been in a rush because my wife was home and she said the guy was using the vac going along and he wasn't paying attention and as he was going through the motions the metal end went right through the front of the glass of my 15gal as he kept backing up and the puffers went everywhere (she didn't see it happen, just heard the crash). the wife tried doing what she could but she couldn't get any water from the tank and she doesn't know how to mix the water properly so she tried to put them into her 5 gal betta tank to at least be in water but going from the brackish to fresh and the shock of what happened they died.

I'm SO PISSED at this company! 2 weeks from going to my new place and getting their proper home started up and now its gone. Don't really know what to do at this point, I really loved those puffers and i don't have the attitude that "oh i'll just get new ones" but I do want a puffer tank, situation just really sucks.

Sorry to hear this, I hope they are gonna compensate for their incompetence.

I would be on the phone with the company and on hold as they push the call up the chain of authority. There is just no excuse for what happened.

They need to pay for damages to the dwelling, first off. I'm sure the carpet is toast, and who even knows about the subflooring. All of that is on them.

They also need to reimburse you for your personal losses. It seems cold to put a price on them, but replacing the equipment and the price of the puffers themselves is the absolute bare minimum that they should be doing for you.

Honestly, I would push for the "pain and suffering" reimbursement, if I were in the situation. They KILLED your PETS. That doesn't have a price tag, but any company worth their salt should be looking into getting you a pretty big gift card to Petsmartco.

yeah really, if they had killed a cat or dog, the news would be all over it! i hope you do take it up with the company!

OMG, that's horrible!

Well the company is going to take care of any clean-up and any damages that will occur, the owner of the company said he would like to pay for everything as far as the tank, filter, rock, deco etc. He just said make a list and prices and he would just cut me a check. I mean thats great and all but still doesn't change the fact. So now i'll be starting from scratch in a couple weeks. I'm still stoked about setting up the 55gal because its a new tank but nothing to put in it for right now.

This is so sad... but the solutions seems to be the best for all... i do believe in karma,
lets this go away and keep on movin, and YOU MUST suggest to the owner of the company that he would make that guy (the accident responsible) to pay you, ALL the damage... doing this this guy will never forget the mistake.

This is why I don't let people near my fish tanks especially outsiders. Hearing about this makes me angry and sad.

I honestly wasn't thinking about making the guy pay for it, getting money for all of this was really the last thought on my mind in all honesty. I may be fairly new to puffers but they have been the best fish i've had in my almost 20 years of having aquariums. Yes it has me sad, angry, and pissed off but thanks to THIS forum and people like PP and RTR and MANY others I'll move on from this and sad to say i've looked around the LFS in my area today and nobody has F8's. The really good LFS in my area has GSP's and as much as i'd love to put 1 in my 55 gal I have never done a full marine set up before, only done freshwater so i'll prolly set up the 55 for brackish and wait to find some more F8's because i don't want to do SW and fail at it. I did good with F8's and i really really liked them so i think i'll wait till i can find them again and wait to do the full SW till i can do more research on it. After finding out that i was doing the F8's wrong in the 15 gal i refuse to "half buttocks" anything. If anyone does know of somewhere in the Baltimore/D.C. area of Maryland that i can get F8's or order them online please let me know. And thanks everyone for the support on this post and every other post and question i've asked.

Too add on what i just said I would love to do GSP's i think them and F8's are the coolest puffers out there, maybe i am over thinking doing a full marine tank but would i be fine for filtration using a aquaclear 70 and a skimmer for filtration in a 55 gal saltwater? (havent decided on skimmer brand yet). Or should i just keep it simple and stick with what i know and do F8's in brackish? Only reason i was thinking GSP is because thats all that seems to be avil in my area.

I'll go with what ya'll say because i know many of you have been keeping these fish for a VERY long time.

Not saying to get money out of the situation, just think that if they will pay for the material damage, they better learn the lesson, i mean this is not a simple case... to be sincere, if this were my case i would demand the company, but that is an other story and i don't recommend you (and no one) this at all.

But lets talk about nicer things, like my grand grand said: "show a good face to bad times"... if you don't feel ready to SW, don't try, the time will come by his own, no need to force it... i should try to learn all about BW species and specifically to F8 cuz they are so sweet!

If you really want a gsp then I don't feel like going full marine should be the reason to stop you. When gsp's are young they can be kept in brackish water, and you wouldn't have to adjust it unless you felt like it for a few years (people here just suggest going full marine because its cheaper on the salt) Then after a few more years of brackish under your belt you could raise it to full marine. A good way to help against mistakes when your newer to salty tanks is to go with a bigger tank so even though the minimum for a gsp is 30 if you got a 40-45 for him in a singleton even if you messed up on the salinity the resulting mini cycle would be diluted with the excess water.
