What's wrong with my Figure 8 Puffer ??

Hi everyone!

I bought a Figure 8 Puffer from Wal-Mart yesterday and once I got it home I realized he/she is sick.

Take a look at the video and help me understand what exactly is wrong with my little puffer and how I can get it back to good health. The only positive as of now is it is eating very well.

Hi welcome to the forum. I watched the video he doesn't look very unhealthy. I would however treat him for internal parasites with jungle fizzy tabs, and keep the water quality high for his fin nips and they will grow back quickly what size tank is he in? I would also consider adding in some more decor to keep him busy.

Also you'll want to put the gsp and f8 into separate tanks sooner rather then later. The gsp is more aggressive then the f8 and will grow a bit bigger also the gsp needs full marine when older and the f8 thrives in lower brackish of 1.005

Welcome! the F8 looks rather healthy maybe early signs of ick but nothing that cant be prevented if taken care of. Just raise the temp to around 82-85F and slowly raise salinity to around 1.006. As well as try to do 25% weekly water changes to allow for his fins to fully heal properly.

Thanks so much! Where can I get jungle fizzy tabs?

Also I agree after re-watching your video he appears to have the early signs of ick treat with salt and raise the temperature to 82 plus add a air stone to help them breath if the f8 has it then the gsp probably does too.

You can get them at walmart in the fish supply area right by the tanks. Or on amazon

You're going to have to find a new home for the pleco. How big is that tank?

I have a 10 gallon tank. To losing my job recently, I can't upgrade right now either :(

Then I'm sorry to say, you should at least re-home the pleco & GSP. The F8 should be OK in there as a singleton, for a short while.

How long should I keep the tank at 82-85F? What is the ideal temp I should leave the tank at ?

Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. You still need to re-home that pleco & find a bigger tank for the GSP. In the meantime, do the same for this puffer & his tank that you were planning for the F8.

You're in a worse situation with a green spotted puffer than you are with an F8.

When I parameters I mean what's your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels.
