So, past sunday i was eating some potatoes with some aquarium hobbyist friends and we went into a very interesting talk about green bottle puffers, those indian green guys.

i believe there are 4 sp called like this in the trade, isn't it? i said this where the sp:

A. Modestus (wich is FW), C. Silus (FW), C. Nefastus (BW), C. Naritus (BW to SW when adult)

One of the dudes said it wasn't called C.Naritus, it is X.Naritus , and it is BW only.. ¿is this true?
Then it comes the size discussion lol A. Modestus reaches 4", C. Silus reaches 4-5" , C. Nefastus gets 7" & X.Naritus goes up to 11"

We decided to ask the pro, and i make a couple of bids, so i hope to win even when i´m gonna win anyway cuz in case i was wrong i will learn

So wich facts are wrong? :? (thanks in advance)

First of all there are two genera: Chonerhinos and Auriglobus.

Chonerhinos has only one species following currently valid taxonomy: C. naritus. It can get almost one foot and is the only brackish water fish in this entire puffer group.

Auriglobus has 5 species following currently valid taxonomy: A. amabilis, A. modestus, A. nefastus, A. remotus and A. silus. All are freshwater fishes.

In earlier times (before 1999) naritus was put in the genus Xenopterus by some and the Auriglobus species have been put in Chonerhinos. This was clarified by the scientist Kottelat in the following work: http://www.aseanbiodiversity.info/Abstract/51003666.pdf

Sizes from properly documented measurements:

C. naritus: 28.5 cm (including tail)
A. amabilis: 7 cm (without tail)
A. modestus: 10.6 cm (without tail)
A. nefastus: 13 cm (without tail)
A. remotus: 6.2 cm (without tail)
A. silus: 8.2 cm (without tail)

Divide cm measurements by 2.54 to get inches.

You clearly win man, i was ok only on the measures lol, so, the pot is a tequila bottle, can i ship stuff like that?

Thanks for the document and the "head cleaning", I'm reading it right now, not only for the puffers but for all those fish... about the "indian guys" that is the way the lfs sells (very occasionally) these fish, they are from malaisa & singapore isn't they?
