I know most people use sand, but this was actually going to be a cichlid tank so had it set up like this when I found my GSP and fell in love. Will the gravel be a bad thing or no? PP do you approve?

The gsp will not mind gravel. With most fish it's personal preference. Nice looking tank

Ime, vacuuming on gravel is by far the easiest. Sand u will have to be very careful not to suck up too much of it.

I started my juvie in gravel but as I upgraded & raised the SG, I changed to crushed coral. The more preferred substrate is aragonite sand.

Thank you all. He will be in a SW tank as he gets bigger and something else will be in that tank. Tank right now is at 1.016 SG. He seems to like it pretty well.

That's a great looking tank! You may want to look into silk plants, plastic plants can hurt your GSPs.... sometimes they have sharp edges that can cut their skin. Here's a photo of our 55 gallon GSP tank, we change over to silk plants after learning the plastic plant lesson the hard way. One of our GSPs has a small scare on his side from a plastic plant.
