I'm new to the forum with a question.

If I set up and cycle my GSP's new tank at full marine, how long should I take to acclimate my new GSP housed in FW to it's new home?

There is actually a post that has been going for a while asking people when they moved their gsp to full marine and if it was successful. From that post it seems that there is no negative effects from putting the gsp into full marine at a young age viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15647


As to how you would do it if you are using LR and its cured simply put the LR into a full marine tank and its cycled. then put the gsp into a bucket of fw below (don't have it very full of water but enough for the gsp to swim around easily ) the tank and use a airline tube that drips from the full marine tank into the bucket so that it drips about 1 drop per second. When the water in the bucket has increased about 2/3 the original amount check to see if it matches the salinity of the tank

check multiple times throughout the process to see where the salinity is at and to make sure its not increasing to quickly. The entire process should take about 2-4 hours.

You can also use plastic airline needle valves that you can pick up at your local pet stores to control the drip rate which is easier to do then to tie knots.

Puffy smashed it. Welcome to the forum. All I will say is on the first cycle the bucket water won't match the tank salinity, you will need to empty some bucket water. Aim for closer to 4 hours. You can use a tank on the floor if you wish

I wouldn't trust any LR to be totally cured, unless you're getting it directly from someone's established system. Set up the tank 1st, add the LR & give it a week or 2 of testing parameters, to be sure, before adding the fish.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I had found several articles about weather or not to go full marine with a young puffer, but I hadn't found any on the actual acclimation of a new fish. I will use airline tubing and a roll valve from an IV setup (my wife is a nurse) to regulate the drips into a 5 gallon bucket containing the fish. The live rock I will be using is from the sump of my 125g reef tank. I have also rolled around the possibility of plumbing the puffer tank to the sump of my reef tank. Do you see any negative results with that move?

The main negative to a joint sump is that if a disease gets into your tank it will spread through both tanks, also the sump has to deal with the bio-load of both tanks. Not something worth doing IMO
