Anyone grow up with or currently own any Metaframe Aquariums?
I personally think they were the most beautiful and most well constructed aquariums ever made! My Dad let me use his 2 gallon, 10 gallon, and a 25 gallon when I was a kid.
You gotta love the heavy duty glass and the "Chrome" framed construction.

Yup, I sure did. I still have an angelfish breeder tank from the old chrome, glass, and slate style. I also have one of the early all-glass tanks made by Metaframe shortly before they walrus down.
Even better if you like the chrome and glass bit, I have a 50 gallon Chicago Rainbow from the 1950s. That one is still in constant use. It makes the Metaframes look flimsy. That is may most valuable tank.

I saw one of these at Value Village. I wanted it but it was small and I have no need for it... I must say though, I certainly prefer the look of black trim.

I'll stick with chromed angle steel on the Chicago Rainbow.
PP: the above tank has very thick slate (as thick as a pool table) for the base, but it is covered with white opaque glass. These were the original SW tank designs.

Id take it but I am Leary about the hole and possible sealant damage.

Growing up my parents had a 10g Metaframe until it started leaking, then got put in basement and forgot about. My last trip home I talked them out of the tank, but I've failed at trying to get it to reseal. I recently picked up a 2.5g that holds water, but has some scratches in it that I'm gonna try to buff out.
Here's the 2.5g

OMG! That was my FIRST Fish Tank! I later kept it as a hospital tank until the glass randomly shattered on the side one day.

(freak accident)
Only difference is mine had the original slate bottom.

The vintage tanks...lol I think my parents also had one before I was born...lol.
Last time I seen one, was at a fishshop about 20 years ago. It was a 55 gal. and had fish in it and no leaks. Oh almost forgot about a 20 gal. that I almost got my hands on but the owner ended up backing out of the deal back when I was in highschool.

I haven't decided what I'm gonna do with it yet. I've got a Tom's canister filter, heater, and lights that will work. Now it's just figuring out stocking

Of course I grew up with Metaframe tanks. I still have a 50 Chicago Rainbow in use.

My first tank when I was 7 or 8 years old was a 10 gallon chrome just like that. It was at then end of my bed. I laid in my bed for hours looking at my mollies, sword tails, and zebras. I remember it had the iridescent lights and you could change the bulbs for different colors.
