I was at walmart the other day and saw their puffer tank, and they had a large bowl filled with un dissolved aquarium salt. Doesn't the salt burn their skin? I asked the lady what they were using it for and she said they like to bleach their stomach on it?

Its like Nazi death camps for puffers.

I actually admit that I work at Walmart (meat & produce) and I had a long talk with a pet department lady yesterday as they just replenished their supply of GSP's and she was totally clueless as to what I had learned on this forum about these poor little guys. I felt sick seeing 12 more of those little guys half the size of my thumb being kept in a bare 10 gallon tank as they fought over pellets of food. (Yes they get 12 at a time in a shipment!)

Yeah I applied at Petsmart today as their aquatics specialist is leaving. I am gonna be too temped to "rescue" more GSP's at Walmart if I stay there knowing all that I know now.

My GSP was a walmart rescue 5+ years ago. He was so bright in the midst of horrible conditions. I have complained to at least 3 different walmarts and none of them care. One of them told me that the puffers were sent to them every Tuesday and most of them die before the week is up. Then I punched him in the face. Not really, but sometimes I wish I would had. Someone needs to call a puffer protest.

I don't think we should recommend illegal activities here.

If I could press a button and immediately kill every abused, neglected, and homeless animal in the world, I would. I understand how you feel. It also sucks that fish don't have legal protection. But I figured Jeni wouldn't want anyone to openly suggest anything illegal on her site.
