ok PP, you got me hooked a bit on these "so ugly that they are cute" fish of course im going to have questions for you.

do you have any good links that i cant trust to get correct info on size, required care and different breeds?

do you have any general suggestions for someone who has never tried keeping goldfish before?

i have a 75 gallon im looking to use for a pair of goldies, what other "clean up" fish do you suggest to grab any food they dont eat, or is the tank at its max with these goldfish?

lifespan?

i guess thats it for now until i read a bit. off to google to do some light research. thanks in advance

You could get a Firebelly Newt, they prefer coldwater and will eat any scraps

yeah but this would strictly be an aquarium, i wouldnt have a separate land area for them to escape the water. when i worked at a pet store the newts would spend a good portion of their time out of the water in puddles on land, similar to mud skippers so i dont think i would be able to provide for their needs

Mine used to hang out in my floating plants (plants that had come unrooted), I never had a land section for them. Grew nice and big. I see what you're saying though, shame as they're chilled out little dudes that are fun to watch

i did have a thought with my 75 to make it part land part water with live plants and such. but i have no idea how to tell if i have tempered glass. i wanted to drill the bottom of the left and right, make the right side plumb down to a 10-20 gallon guppy breeding tank connected system so the "pond had filtration". the tank guppies i would transfer up to the display that way my "pond" had fish in it. the land area would have been a porous substrate with egg crate on the bottom creating a couple inch gap between the glass and substrate to allow water to filter through and not sit in the soil rotting it(thanks lil swimz if your still out there for that info and breaking it down for me ). the reason i would drill on the left side as well was so that the excess water that filtered through the soil could be removed easily by opening the valve and dumping it out. but i just dont have the time or energy/resources to do it currently. coupled with the fact i dont know if i can drill it, took my idea and popped the bubble. otherwise i would consider some sort of land/water animal for the tank

Sorry, I just had to post it somewhere, I am dying to say that I want one, but, as Denzil didn't let me upgrade Luau as of yet, he sure won't let me set another tank up for a goldie LoL.

lol i was actually thinking of commenting in her thread "so i can get a baby right?" i wouldnt want two from the same "litter" because of the morphing that could happen if they breed. i would probably shoot for one and get another not too long before or after. thats if they survive. i really do like the ranchu she just got. really nice looking goldie!

+1. The more I stare at him, the more I want one. I am not a huge fan of the lions, but I love the ranchus. Not to say Fiona isn't gorgeous, because she is, it's just not for me =) /sigh. One day, I will have a big ol' house with lots of tanks and automatic water changers LOL. #dreamon

If you want something to eat scraps, I'd get a few apple snails. They won't breed without special conditions, and if they do, you just have to remove the clutches (which are easy to get to, since they're always above the waterline and pretty obvious).

Shazam! That's great idea! I have a tank at work which I use as a grower or for friendlies.....have lots of room....

good idea lilgreen puffer. snails are cool to watch anyway especially the bigger ones lol

I do not suggest keeping a toxic animals with your fish.
