Hey guys

Do I really need a Phosphate reactor?

I have a 55g SW tank with about 40kg LR and a deltec 300 skimmer

I used a reactor with bio pearls with amazing results instead of a phos reactor with rowa

Never used any reactors myself.

A guy on a reef forum made my reactor will try and find out which site it was

What are the pros of having one?

I know it's to reduce the Phosphate but what's the final benifit?

Does it stop algea growing (plants feed on Phosphate right)?

Bio pearls reduce nitrate phos and help feed corals as far as i can remember Google them for a better description all i know is my water had better readings than the shop i bought from and he prided himself on his water quality

I built one last night out of a seaclone I had sitting around. I just pulled the internal tube out, cut it in half, put it in some panty hose to hold the phos guard pellets, and dropped it back in the skimmer body. I haven't tested the water yet but it seems to be working just fine.

I am a bit confused...

Reactors in general are to either remove particular materials or to supplement them. How can you discuss either option without specifying what the desired levels are versus what the operating levels of those materials are in your systems? Or even what type of system it is that you are operating?
