The Puffer Forum

Well i am expecting my Chongo puffer tommorrow.

So i decided to test my water today.
First off i added a new power filter, its a pinguin 350 bio wheel.

It has 3 carbon style filters and an another partical filter plus the 2 bio wheels.
now 1 of these carbon filters and the partical filter came from the old power filter to make sure i had some good bacteria, they were about 2 weeks old prior to the new one.



I added these over the weekend, and did a water change\gravel cleaning.

Ok so i tested my water today, amonia was at lowest on the chart witch was like 0ppm.
Nitrite was also at lowest on chart 0ppm
As was nitrate.
Tank has been up and running about 2 1/2 months now, was cycled with bio spira and 3 bala sharks in it.(balas are going to a bigger tank after puffer is in.)

All that is looking good, i figured the nitrate would be at a good lvl but i did expect it to be higher then 0ppm i tested that twice and came back same results.

All this was looking good for me, and the new puffer.

I then tested the PH, and on my chart it tested at like 8.4 and i checked and the puffer list said it should be about 6.8-7.6
So i am a little over, i tested the tap water and it was about 7.4-7.6

Could my tap water be fluctuating that far?

I have some gravel sub strate and some fake plants in the take, not sure why the PH is so high in the tank.

Any ways does this seem fine to introduce the puffer into after aclimation or should i do another water change?

Congo is usually the common name for T. miurus, one of the lurkers, the one which buries itself the most.

Most folks already know what I'd say--when in doubt, do a water change!

Go for the water change ^^ it won't do anything but good!
